March News

Hello from your Preschool. It’s hard to believe, but we just have three more months to go for this year. Calls are beginning to come in for fall of 2019. If you know of anyone looking for a two-day preschool, remember to send them our way.
Thank you ALC for allowing us to use the Fellowship hall for our Valentine visitors. Everyone had someone who loves them come and help make Valentines for Mom and Dad. We have adjusted to the space downstairs, but it sure helps to have all those tables to work from. Adults don’t always appreciate preschool sized chairs. We also had a visit from a Doctor Dad & our RN Dad who talked to us about taking care of our bodies. After hearing the Good Samaritan story, we were ready for a unit on taking care of each other and ourselves. If you are on Facebook you can see the preschoolers acting out the Samaritan story. Find us at ALC Preschool, Billings.
March is a fun month for high energy kids. We start by having fun with Dr. Seuss. We had been wearing a specific color every Wednesday and Thursday last month. With Dr. Seuss we get color crazy and wear as many colors as we can. I always tell parents to just let the child dress themselves that day. They have some crazy combinations. We will attempt our first real mess in the kitchen with Green Eggs and Ham. We also get to do some pirate play with our green week for St Patrick’s day. What else do you do with X but mark the spot?
With the hope of spring comes the Creation story and how God loves everything that he made. We also get to learn about all God’s creatures with Noah’s story and how Moses grows up and saves his people.
We are having a great time downstairs in your preschool. Thank you for the continued prayers and support.

    Director
    Marianne Smith

Marianne had been working for Messiah Lutheran's preschool since 2004 and became the director of their preschool in 2008. The program moved to American Lutheran Church in January of 2019. Marianne received her degree in early childhood studies. She has been in elementary or preschool settings as a teacher or assistant since 1987. After studying elementary Education and working in various elementary schools, she decided that preschool is really where her heart is. She actually enjoys the endless “why” questions from this age group. Working for a church takes this a step further, as she proudly gets to teach a Bible story based curriculum. She is pleased to be part of the staff at ALC. American Lutheran's Preschool is a welcoming space in which to learn and grow. The church’s mission is truly carried out in growing deep and reaching wide. Even the youngest members can make a joyful noise to the Lord!

In 20-21 we added Rochelle Buyse to our team, Ms. Rochelle is the Youth and Education Director of ALC. She jumped in to help us during the pandemic and liked it so much she offered to stay on with us- adding to her duties at the church. She is a wife and mother of two grown girls. We are grateful to have her on board!

Mrs. Smith's son Ryan (below) is our occasional sub and sidekick.  He has a degree in Education like his mother.
