Welcome to the preschool news. We are enrolling students for the fall. Our open houses will be full of families exploring the classroom. Once these students get used to the routine, we will take off. September it’s a time for play and exploration while we learn how it works.
Children come to Messiah in a two year program, progressing with skill levels as they are developmentally ready. We start the year learning all of the rules and routines in a preschool day. We have help from our friend the Bee. Be kind, be safe, be a friend, be quiet, or just be our selves. One of our first Bible stories is Jesus feeding the 5,000. Snack at preschool only feeds 18, but we learn to share, learn our table blessing, and work on our manners when we hear this story. We also get to learn a bit about allergies with a peanut allergy in our Tu-Th class this year. We try to update our Facebook page often at Messiah Lutheran Preschool, Billings and continue working on this web page, so check in for answers to any questions you may have about our program (or as always, feel free to ask Mrs. Smith anything). We want to add a thank you for all of the work that Messiah members Pastor Kris, Karen Duncan, Dennis Hackmann, Tim Singer, & Skip Mitzman have done for the preschool. If we missed anyone who contributed time and talents to our basement classroom, we thank YOU too. Thank you for your continued support as we begin a new year downstairs in your preschool. Marianne

Most of you are already aware that Messiah has a small congregation. In the last year, this church has been faithfully praying for growth. The preschool has been housed here for 30 years, rent free, as an outreach program. Messiah is currently working on various ways to continue their ministry. Please keep this congregation in your prayers in this coming year.
Because of their unknown future, we have graciously been invited to move over to American Lutheran Church (on the Corner of Division & Lewis). We prayerfully made the decision to commit to moving the preschool to ALC in September of 2019. They had a preschool there for close to 50 years before their most recent director retired. ALC is willing to wait and offer Messiah’s program a safe, fun, established space to move to when we need it. The plan is set for next September, but they are available as soon as January 2019 if we should need to give Messiah back their space sooner. We do realize that it is a few miles farther for some of you to travel. A move will not change our program or our connection to your children. We will all have to make the 10-minute adjustment if we end up moving during this current school year. We GREATLY appreciate your commitment to our program and philosophy. We are going to have a great year even with potential changes ahead. When we know more you will too. Until then we play and learn together happily at Messiah. We hope you are having a good summer. Postcards will go out mid August to remind the students that we don't start quite when the big kids go. You get a bit of extra time with your preschooler before we begin after Labor day. We're gearing up for another great year in preschool. It has been great meeting some of you this summer at our first time visits. We are looking forward to getting to know all of the new students. Our open houses are the Wednesday and Thursday of Labor day week and the classes start a week from Labor day on Monday and Tuesday. See you in September!
Can you believe it is already the end of March? We've only got two months of school left for the year. We will be taking a mini-spring break over Easter weekend. We hunt Easter eggs on Mon/Tues and then break through Easter Monday (12-17th).
The elementary school kids are out on Monday April 3rd, but we don't take that day off. You can choose to keep your preschooler home with siblings or send them and meet one of Mrs. Smiths kids, who will sub for Jessie/Jill while they are home with their kids. Next month the graduating students will go to the zoo on Wed the 17th and have a grad brunch on Wed the 24th. The Tuesday/Thurs class will end on Tuesday May 23rd this year. Class will begin again for them the week of Labor day next fall. We've got a lot to do in the next two months. It goes way to fast for sure. Happy Spring to all! Yesterday and today we had our open house for each class. We had some shy introverts and some enthusiastic extroverts at both. We can't wait until next week when we can really get to know your child's personality. There are 14 students back from last year. There are also a lot of siblings of past students in each class. It's fun when it is finally their turn to come to school.
We are going to have so much fun with your children this year. Next week we will spend most of our time getting to know each other and learning how the school routine will work. It's ok if you have to leave them screaming in our arms at 9 a.m. We will make sure they are safe and learn to be comfortable at school. It's also ok if they really don't want to leave us at the end of the day. That's a good sign, even if you carried them out kicking and screaming. You are not the only parent this is happening to on either end. We are all there to support you and make this a terrific, fun learning experience for your child. It's going to be a great year! See you on Monday or Tuesday next week. It’s the last day in August and we’ve got a week to go until we meet you and start our year. Hope you got your welcome postcard? Preschool seems to take forever to start once the big kids go to school. Waiting is so hard, isn’t it? We are getting things ready for the open house, cleaning all the toys and planning our year. We are excited to get started!
The open houses are Wednesday and Thursday next week. You can come anytime between 9-11 a.m. to meet us. We will try to take your child’s picture that day, so we can put in on their cubby. Sometimes the child will be shy and not be up for that and that’s ok. We’ll catch them in play the next week and get it done. We will also be making their crowns and doing a shape/color page for us. We like them to do it with you, because they aren’t quite comfortable with us yet. Once they get familiar with our routines we can really get to work here. It’s going to be a great year at Messiah! See you all soon! MS |
