Can you believe that it is December already? We have a short month in preschool. Our last day of the semester and our Christmas program will be Thursday the 14th at 6:30pm.
We sure hope everyone stays healthy this month since we don't have much time to tackle the program songs and your homemade gifts. It's a whirlwind of glitter and song practice. We have had a terrific semester at ALC and should be gaining three new students in the new year. We begin fall '24 enrollment in January, so please spread the word if anyone you know is looking for a part time prekindergarten experience.

Marianne Smith

Marianne had been working for Messiah Lutheran's preschool since 2004 and became the director of their preschool in 2008. The program moved to American Lutheran Church in January of 2019. Marianne received her degree in early childhood studies. She has been in elementary or preschool settings as a teacher or assistant since 1987. After studying elementary Education and working in various elementary schools, she decided that preschool is really where her heart is. She actually enjoys the endless “why” questions from this age group. Working for a church takes this a step further, as she proudly gets to teach a Bible story based curriculum. She is pleased to be part of the staff at ALC. American Lutheran's Preschool is a welcoming space in which to learn and grow. The church’s mission is truly carried out in growing deep and reaching wide. Even the youngest members can make a joyful noise to the Lord!

In 2024 We have welcomed Michelle VanderEsch to our teaching team. She is a busy mother of six sons, but studied education in college and enjoys the challenge of working with preschoolers. Her oldest (a former student of Mrs. Smith) is a senior in high school this year and her youngest is in our class. Mrs. Smith has taught all six boys, so we had a great relationship already as we learn and grow working together. SO glad she is here!

Mrs. Smith's son Ryan has his degree in Elementary Education like his mother. He house & pet sits full time and subs for Mom on the side. He has been our on and off assistant as needed. At 6'9" we call him our gentle giant.
